The small print

Terms of sale

The short version: you pay the price you are shown, we print your copy and post it to you, and the law of your own country still protects you.

Who you are buying from

These terms apply to every order placed on deadlyfiles.com. The seller is Universal Canvas, Bijlmerdreef 462, 1102 AC Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 92815111, VAT NL004978827B71. Email hi@deadlyfiles.com.

The book

Deadly Files: KAGAMI by Fuxia is a printed puzzle book of 364 pages, printed in black and white and perfect bound with a matte colour cover, A5. It is printed to order by our print partner, Lulu, and each copy is made after you pay for it. Colours in print can differ slightly from a screen.

Ordering

You enter a delivery address, see the full price for it, and pay through Stripe’s checkout page. The contract is made when your payment goes through; we confirm it by email straight away. We may decline or cancel an order we cannot fulfil, for instance an address the carrier will not deliver to, and if we do, we refund you in full.

Prices and payment

Prices are in pounds for the United Kingdom, in euros for the rest of Europe and in US dollars elsewhere. The price includes VAT where it applies and standard delivery. A faster delivery option costs extra, shown before you pay. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.

Outside the European Union the destination country may charge import duties or taxes on arrival. Those are set by that country and paid by the recipient.

Delivery

Your copy goes to the press soon after you pay. Printing and binding take a few days, then it is posted with a tracking link emailed to you. If a copy does not arrive, write to hi@deadlyfiles.com and we will send another or refund you.

The puzzles and the writing

The story, puzzles, text and artwork are protected by copyright. Buying a copy lets you read it, solve it and lend or give it away. Please do not copy, scan or share the pages, letters or solutions.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you buy as a consumer, that does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you may bring a dispute before the courts there.

Returns and refunds

Damaged, misprinted or lost

If your copy arrives damaged, badly printed or bound, or does not arrive at all, write to hi@deadlyfiles.com with your order details and, for a damaged copy, a photo. We send a new copy or refund you in full, whichever you prefer. You do not have to send the faulty copy back.

Changed your mind

You may cancel without giving a reason within 14 days of the day the book is delivered. Send a clear statement to hi@deadlyfiles.com before the 14 days are up, for example: “I withdraw from my purchase of Deadly Files: KAGAMI, ordered on [date] and received on [date]. [Your name and address.]”

We reply with the return address. Send the book back within 14 days of telling us; the return postage is yours. Please return it unread and unmarked: a copy with the puzzles filled in has lost value, and we may reduce the refund to match.

How you are refunded

We refund what you paid, including standard delivery, to the payment method you used, within 14 days of hearing from you. We may wait until the book is back or you have shown you posted it. The extra paid for a faster courier is not refunded.

Your legal rights

Nothing here limits the rights the law gives you, including the legal guarantee that the book is as described and free of defects.

Privacy

We collect what it takes to post you a book and to learn how visitors find it. We never sell your data. Universal Canvas (details above) is responsible.

When you order

The order form asks for your name, delivery address, phone number and email. We use them to take payment, have your copy printed and posted, send a receipt and tracking link, and answer you if something goes wrong. The legal basis is the contract. The carrier requires the phone number. While you are on Stripe’s page your details are kept in your own browser tab so the form is still filled in if you come back; they are deleted when you return, when your order goes through, or when you close the tab.

News of the next book

If you tick “Tell me when the next Deadly Files book is out” when you order, we add the email address and first name from your order to our list for new-book news. The legal basis is your consent; the box is never ticked for you. We only write when a new book is out, every mail has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.

Who else handles your data

Some of these companies are in the United States; where data leaves the EEA it is protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it, and your rights

Order and payment records are kept for seven years, as Dutch tax law requires. You may ask to see, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, or object to its use: write to hi@deadlyfiles.com and we answer within a month. You may also complain to your data protection authority; in the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
